BANGALORE: IBM India has announced

the availability of 'Rapid Restore PC' on all its new IBM ThinkPads and NetVista

desktop systems. The IBM Rapid Restore PC is a unique and advanced managed

data-recovery solution designed to protect both - the software running on a

corporate system as well as user data file. This novel software solution is the

first of its kind in the industry and has been developed by IBM in conjunction

with Xpoint Technologies Inc.

IBM's exclusive Rapid Restore PC software is available as a free download on IBM ThinkPad and NetVista products. It provides a one-button backup of a user's hard drive to a hidden partition on the drive to enable quick recovery from operating system crashes and viruses, reducing loss of data and support requirements.

With Rapid Restore PC, users are better protected against unexpected computer disasters such as image correction and data loss. Administrators can benefit from the quick, localized system recovery to a large extent. This solution will also help avoid the expense of sending a technician or using bandwidth to transmit a new image to a system. It is an easy-to-manage, highly reliable backup and restore solution for stand-alone and corporate computer-users - fitting easily into an enterprise-wide recovery strategy.

Rapid Restore PC protects the entire software image including the Microsoft Windows operating system, software applications, registry setting and fix packs, as well as user data such as desktop personalization, and unique system and network settings. It also stores back-ups in a hidden, locked partition on the hard disk drive. The partition is created during setup. It can restore one of up to five levels of back-ups using either the Microsoft Windows interface, or F11 System Recovery, independent of the operating system.

The recovery solution integrates with enterprise-wide systems management policies, that can be automated through a command line interface to control the end-user interface and capabilities. It can create bootable recovery CDs or choose the new optional IBM Portable USB 2.0 Hard Drive with Rapid Restore for a portable recovery solution using the high-speed USB 2.0 interface.

IBM Rapid Restore RC functionality can be expanded with additional products and services. These solutions can be deployed enterprise-wide on most brands of computer systems.
