BANGALORE: IBM India launched the latest WebSphere infrastructure software, Version 5, and its development environment, WebSphere Studio, Version 5, providing the standards-based infrastructure to integrate business processes across the enterprise and with partners, suppliers and customers.

This tighter integration allows businesses to create a more productive application development environment, make the best use of computing resources, and deliver the reliability, security and performance that are paramount to high-volume transactions.

WebSphere will serve as the underlying universal platform for all of IBM's on-demand software, tightly integrating with DB2, Tivoli and Lotus. Version 5 includes the industry's broadest support for Web services standards -- a key part of the open, on-demand environment.

New, sophisticated support for autonomic computing helps customers deploy and manage their infrastructure, makes applications constantly available, optimizes performance, and lowers administrative costs. New Autonomic Computing Technologies Improve Availability, Performance WebSphere offers new autonomic features that enable on-demand e-businesses to lower the cost of administration and improve response time by creating a reliable and self-managed infrastructure.

The software will deliver better scalability, performance and security and reduce the need for human intervention, which helps customers facing the worldwide shortage of skilled IT workers. WebSphere's autonomic features lay the foundation for grid computing, which allows companies to improve operating efficiencies, increase availability and maximize computing resources by sharing computing power across heterogeneous networked systems.

"Customers need an IT infrastructure that is open, flexible and secure enough to dynamically change with their needs," said IBM India, Country Executive, Software Group & Developer Relations, Frank Luksic. "With WebSphere V5, companies can access any application, process, data or device across and beyond their business, all within a self-managing, self-calibrating environment that cuts down administrative costs and headaches."
