IBM expands enterprise storage offerings

BANGALORE, INDIA: IBM announced enhancements to its information infrastructure portfolio of enterprise storage products designed to manage growing data and information lot.

The enhanced version of IBM XIV Storage System and System Storage DS8000 would include better performance, security, manageability and business continuity that will help in reducing cost and energy consumption, while dealing with increasing volume of information.

IBM announced that XIV Storage System, a disk storage architecture designed to eliminate complexity of administration and management of tiered storage, would also support asynchronous mirroring later this year. This will enable remote disaster site recovery.

Moreover, other enhancements, on XIV, include introduction of dual processors, offering performance improvements of up to 30 percent, new functionality to support Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), enabling single sign-on and consolidated access control for multiple systems, as well as IBM Tivoli Productivity Center 4.1 support designed to simplify cross-systems management.

IBM also announced the addition of thin provisioning to IBM System Storage DS8000, which supports continuous operations for cross-platform, mission-critical workloads. Thin provisioning capabilities are

instrumental in allowing companies to more effectively store and access the tremendous amount of information across their organizations. 

Pricing for Thin Provisioning on the DS8000 is flat rate by model, starting at approximately $69,000.
