The x440 on Intel Xeon processor MP is aimed at Enterprise e-business

applications like ERP, SCM and corebanking for industries such as manufacturing,

telecom, banking as well as small and medium-sized business and Server

consolidation.

The Intel Xeon processor MP offers significant performance gains for

multiprocessing servers with four or more processors. With an integrated 512KB

or 1MB L3 cache and unique Hyper-threading technology, the processor is able to

cut through complex operations more quickly and more efficiently than previous

Intel Pentium III Xeon processor. The EXA opens the door to significant

improvements in the Intel-based server arena. Customers will be able to easily

scale their Intel-based systems from 4 to 8 to 12 to 16 processor in a single

system, run different operating system, swap memory while the server is running

and service or make upgrades to their server without having to shut down.

"This is the most powerful processor the world has ever seen. This

product brings in the concept of pay as you grow. Delivering the revolutionary

Enterprise X-Architecture, a 'game-changing' technology on the highly scalable

Intel Xeon processor MP, will allow us to provide exactly what customers need to

run successful e-business applications in this fast growing Intel-based server

market," said Jyothi Satyanathan, country business manager, IBM eServer

xSeries, IBM India Ltd.
