IBM claims leadership in Indian server market

BANGALORE, INDIA: IBM today announced that it emerged as the leader in the overall server market in India in terms of factory revenue in Q4 2008 as per IDC’s Asia/Pacific Enterprise Server Tracker, Q4 2008 released this month.

IBM recorded a market share of 38.1 per cent in terms of factory revenue in the overall server market in India registering a gain of 3 points Y-o-Y, said a press release.

The release said that IBM maintained the number one position in the India non-x86 UNIX server market segment ending the fourth quarter of 2008 with a 49.9 per cent share in terms of factory revenue, thereby registering a gain of 12 points Y-o-Y.

It also maintained market leadership in the India non-x86 UNIX server market for 2008 with 37.9 per cent share in terms of factory revenue, thereby registering a gain of 2 points year-on-year.

IBM was at number two position in the India x86 server market with a 27.9 per cent share in terms of factory revenue during Q4 2008, as well as the entire year, with 27.7 per cent share, the release added.
