BANGALORE: i2 Technologies would launch its strategic sourcing solution in India soon. The official launch would be somewhere in October or November this year. The solution is part of i2 technologies’ series of "Supplier Relationship Management Solutions". The other solutions in the series, which include Product Sourcing and Procurement, would also be launched in India gradually. The strategic sourcing solution was launched around two years back in US and Europe. i2 hopes to win lot of Indian customers for this solution and is in talks with many of them.

According to the company, the solution can streamline the process of spare parts procurement by companies from different suppliers. Explaining the importance of the Strategic Sourcing solution in India, CS Venkatesh Director Alliances, i2 technologies, said "Many Indian companies specially the large scale public sector enterprises spend huge amounts on procurement of spare parts from different suppliers. Seeing the market trend nowadays there is a demand for more and more quality oriented spare parts. Apart from this prompt supply of the products also holds lot of importance"

Venkatesh explained that due to the increase in globalization companies are procuring spare parts from different suppliers across the world and exercise a wide choice like never before. In order to streamline this process of procurement i2’s Strategic Sourcing Solution can play a very effective role. Highlighting the benefits of the solution, he said that the solution being fully automated helps in defining the exact requirements of the company with regard to the procurement of spare parts.

He added that their solution follows systematic procedures which involve identifying the different commodities procured from different suppliers by a company over a period of time, along with identifying the suppliers through its features of commodity and supplier management. He remarked that this solution also helps in analyzing the amount of money spent by a company on procuring these commodities during a particular time frame. Venkatesh claimed that their solution had been very effective in new acquisitions where different kinds of systems are followed to procure spare parts from suppliers.

The successful implementation of the product had helped in drastic cost cuttings thereby making many companies financially stronger. He cited the example of BAE Systems and Marconi in this regard where i2 had installed this solution.

Venkatesh however declined to comment upon the actual cost involved in installing the solution as he said that it depends on the type of requirement. He is however very much hopeful that with the increasing trend of globalization the market for the solution would grow by manifolds especially in India in the years to come.
