I am all for IT: Andhra CM

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh,  took time out from the assembly in session to address the leaders of the IT industry at the interactive meet organized by Nasscom. Apologizing to a large audience of CEOs for postponing the meet originally scheduled for June 15, he suggested that the industry get proactive and take IT to Vizag, Warangal, Guntur and other tier two cities. He congratulated HSBC for taking the lead in starting operations in Vizag. The CM also exhorted the industry to take up the hardware challenge, tap domestic market and popularize IT among the masses.

"We are for the overall growth of the state and IT is the fastest growing industry employing 85,000 people in the state. However, this is not enough," said the Chief Minister stating that the industry needs to step up the pace. He reassured the IT chieftains that the government would extend all its support. "We will do anything and everything that is required," he said eliciting a big round of applause. Recalling the significant contribution of Andhra Pradesh in the growth of the IT in the country he said, the state contributes 3 per cent of the country's GDP and employs 8 lakh people and promised the government's support, comparable to any other state in the country, as well as any other country in the world. "You just need to brainstorm and let us know what you need and we will comply," he said. There is no need for concern on any count. The government is not against any industry, he emphasized.



Calling for a brainstorming session he said that after receiving the suggestions from the industry the government would formulate and announce the incentive packages. He also made it a point to remind the industry to take IT to the masses and re-stated his agenda of reforms with a human face. He closed the address with an announcement of Gitex-2005 scheduled for January 12-14, 2005.



Before leaving for the assembly, the CM had a brief closed door meeting with — HSBC, Deloitte, Wipro and Promod Haque of Norwest Venture Partners.
