NEW DELHI: Chinese telecom vendors Huawei and ZTE have bagged two contracts from the State owned PSUs in India.
Huawei won a tender with an value of around Rs 200 crore tender from the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) for 5,00,000 broadband lines in Delhi after emerging as the lowest bidder for the tender.
ZTE Corporation has bagged part of a six million line broadband project from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
MTNL had invited bids for Delhi circle to add five lakh broadband connections and Huawei emerged as the lowest bidder.
According to the terms and condition of the tender Huawei would get 100 per cent contract order. However, ZTE was the second lowest bidder in the tender.
It may be noted that the Chinese vendor ZTE was disqualified in the BSNL’s 4.5 million GSM lines tender, which became a debatable issue in the telecom industry. It was also debated that the Chinese companies were barred from doing business in the country due to security reasons.
Both ZTE and Huawei had filed their proposals with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) for setting up manufacturing facilities in the country.
