Huawei‘s Indian R&D Center achieves CMMI Level 5 v1.3 Certification

BANGALORE, INDIA: Huawei Technologies India Pvt Ltd, the largest overseas R&D center of Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) provider, has been appraised at Level 5 v1.3 of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). This assessment validates Huawei's process capability based on the CMMI standards that measure process improvements.

Huawei Technologies India undertook this important process transformation to further enhance its R&D delivery capability to meet customer expectations of consistent faster and frequent deliveries, reduced time to market, besides high quality.

The key aspects of CMMI level 5 v1.3 that the India R&D Center of Huawei has adopted in addition to the previous versions of CMMI process are - a comprehensive quality management system solution for smooth coexistence of CMMI and Agile practices within one system, and selection and customization of high maturity practices/models for implementing quantitative management with clear linkage to consistent improvements in efficiency and quality of deliveries.

An assessment at maturity Level 5 indicates that the organization is performing at an "optimizing" level. At this level, an organization continually improves its processes based on a quantitative understanding of its business objectives and performance needs. The appraisal was conducted by Sankararaman, High Maturity Lead Appraiser, and Consulting Partner of QAI. He commended Huawei India centre's approach towards quality and efficiency improvements, leveraging Agile principles, competency development initiatives enabling high maturity practice deployment, and achieving business impact.

Since its inception in 1999, Huawei Technologies India had laid focus on deploying strong processes for managing the telecom and networking software development, achieving CMM Level 4 in 2001, CMM Level 5 in 2003, CMMI Level 5 Ver 1.1 in 2005, and CMMI Level 5 Ver1.2 in 2009, becoming a competent center for software quality and delivery.
