HONG KONG: Network solution provider Huawei Technologies has unveiled a
super-large capacity Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) solution with up to
1 terabit switching capacity at IEC's Broadband World Forum Asia 2006.
The company announced that SmartAX OFA5920 GPON solution is the latest
innovation from Huawei in access networks. Its products now support over 100
million subscriber lines worldwide as at the end of April 2006.
A Huawei statement further said that its SmartAX OFA5920 GPON solution
compiles with ITU-T G984.1/2/3/4 standards to help operators provide more
flexible and reliable services.
It is the industry's first GPON access platform with terabit non-blocking
switching capability and full redundancy design, the company said.
Only a GPON system realizing terabit non-blocking switching can fully
implement the high-bandwidth characteristics of fibers. GPON enables refined
service awareness, flexible service mapping, flexible Qos and elaborate DBA
(64kbps granularity) to help operators provide more flexible and reliable
services.
Li Jian, vice president of Huawei Access Network Product Line, said, “Huawei
super —large capacity GPON solution provides abundant bandwidth which not only
help operators address the requirements of existing services such as IPTV and
triple play, but more importantly guarantees an evolution towards future high
bandwidth services.”
Focused on continuous R&D, and innovation, Huawei provides a full
spectrum of access network solutions that help operators, in network
construction and transformation, effectively reduce capital expenditure (CAPEX)
and operation expenditure (OPEX) and raise average revenue per user (ARPU).
