Huawei follows smart devices at smart pricing strategy

BANGALORE, INDIA: It is often said that telcos need a better understanding of software economics if they are to prosper in an app-driven world. Huawei has been assisting telcos and consumers by launching networks and devices.

Here, Anand Narang, director Marketing, Huawei Device India, is in conversation with CIOL, regarding its smartphone line and other products.

CIOL: Can you brief us about Huawei product profile for India's mobile market?

Anand Narang: We are building a broad portfolio of products in India catering to the varied taste of consumers here. India is a unique market wherein some consumers are price sensitive while others demand for quality and style in their mobile phones. We aim to cater to the both the set of target audience.

We have four series of products. Our Y series is designed for youth for whom pricing is an important factor and therefore all the products in the Y series fall in the price range of Rs 5000- 10,000.

Then, we have the G series, which is the Gold series which falls in the price range of Rs 10,000-20,000. The P series is the Platinum series which is fall in the price range Rs. 20,000-30,000.

And, above Rs. 30,000 is the Diamond series, which is known as D series. However, Huawei is not just about low-cost products; we offer premium products at appropriate price-points.

CIOL: Huawei has already released a number of smartphones. What is the company's focus? Is it just the entry levels smartphones or even the high end market?

AN: At Huawei, we firmly believe in technology leadership and innovation to provide differentiated value to our customers. We have deep understanding and capability to make handsets with best chipsets, most efficient battery backup, and the design. This gives us a strong position to create maximum value for our customers.

While we offer devices with the latest technology, we focus on offering "smart devices at smart pricing" strategy. India has a lot of potential for growth and expansion in the smart devices market and will continue to look at all the possible opportunities.

In the smart phone segment, Indian consumers yearn for innovation and technology and Huawei has the depth and capacity to bridge this demand gap. Our focus is on bringing quality, innovations and relevance in all our products whether it is the entry level phones or smartphones.

CIOL: What are hard selling points of the latest smartphone releases (eg: Huawei Ascend P6)

AN: We recently launched the Huawei Ascend P6. It is the world's slimmest smartphone measuring 6.18mm. Even at being slimmest in the category and weighing just about 120g, this premium smartphone offers a combination of aesthetics and power performance with 1.5GHz quad-core processor that runs on Android OS 4.2.2.

They run on Android 4.2 and offer faster downloading speed for people who love surfing internet on the go.

CIOL: Does Huawei also plan to launch smartphones on Windows platform?

AN: Huawei has couple of Windows smartphone in our portfolio. We will continue to offer to consumers a range of smartphones, across different OS, supported with Huawei differentiated features.
