The 40G wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transport solution will substantially increase China Unicom’s network capacity and enable it to meet the increasing demand for high-bandwidth broadband from China’s business and residential customers using new multimedia services.

Huawei’s 40G WDM solution is four times faster than most current transport data rates and can achieve ultra-long haul transport without electrical regeneration.

"Huawei is delighted to partner with China Unicom for the construction of an ultra-high-speed long-haul transport network that will provide all-IP fixed-mobile convergence services and address the unprecedented demand for real-time communications and streaming video in China,” said Christian Chua, president of Huawei’s Transport Network Product Line. "Huawei's 40G WDM technologies are helping carriers worldwide deploy reliable commercial networks with increased capacity and greater efficiencies,” he said.

The 40G WDM system adopts Huawei’s unique C-band extension technology, which increases the fiber transport bandwidth by an extra 20% and enables transport capacity of 3.84T – the largest in the industry. It also provides comprehensive encoding technologies and cost-effective services across different application scenarios.

Huawei has also successfully commercialized its 40G WDM products in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. Huawei has also deployed the longest 40G trunk in the world without using electrical regenerators. That trunk is 1,141kms and runs from Moscow to St. Petersburg without any need for electric regeneration. Recently, Huawei has also made public the 100G and 100GE WDM prototypes, making Huawei the first in the industry to master 100GE and 100G end-to-end transport technologies.
