HTL assists Manipal to set up virtual classrooms

BANGALORE: Hindustan Technology Ltd. (HTL) has launched its Interactive

Distance Learning (IDL) services with the commencement of its first project in

association with Manipal IT Education.

The Rs 6.5 crore project, will cover Manipal’s 100 classrooms in the

country, taking Manipal’s IT education lessons through broadband network and

VSAT hubs to about 15,000 students. Another project covering schools across

India in association with Delhi Public school is also underway. It plans to

extend its services to 250 classrooms and 38,000 students.

HTL is a subsidiary of Singapore based SkySat Holdings for implementing,

integrating and maintaining IDL systems across institutions in the country. The

company has partnered with Mentergy Communications Inc of US for technology

know-how. Apparently, Mentergy has picked up an equity stake in both SkySat and

HTL.

"This takes quality education to the remotest part of the country. In

the next two and half years, we will be investing about Rs 50 crore in the

country for offering services in distance learning and telemedicine," said,

HTL’s managing director and CEO, Manoharan Moses.

The company also plans to go public next year to raise funds for investment.

A team of 20 people are developing the content for the distance learning for

Manipal and about 5 are trained by Mentergy to offer support for the same. The

company was set up in 1997 has its corporate office in Delhi and branch office

in Bangalore.
