“The revolutionary HP Z1 sets a new industry standard for workstation design, performance and serviceability,” said Jim Zafarana, vice president and general manager, Commercial Solutions Business Unit, HP. “With its game-changing design and an experience that optimizes visual and computing performance, the HP Z1 will help attract new customers and expand our market leadership.”

The main attractions of the Z1 are that it delivers workstation class performance with NVIDIA Quadro graphics, ECC memory, quad-core Intel Xeon processors, tool-less chassis, high storage, 27-inch white LED diagonal display supports more than 1 billion colors, high-fidelity audio, high-definition webcam and HP remote graphics software and performance advisor.

What catches the eye is clearly the design. The Z1 Workstation snaps open so users can easily swap out parts and make upgrades without any tools required. “Normally there would some compromise or trade off when you for a all in one form factor, however, the Z1 delivers a premium industrial design without any compromise,” said Josh Peterson, director marketing of Commercial Solutions Business Unit, HP. It is primarily aimed at the CAD market, digital media and entertainment professionals and the higher education segments.

HP has been in the workstation market for close to three decades and since the last three years HP went from a distant second in the market to No. 1 in workstation shipments worldwide.

IDC reported that HP maintains its leadership in the workstation category with a 46.1 per cent share worldwide for the fourth quarter of 2011, according to the IDC Worldwide Workstation Tracker, Q4 2011. The turning point was the introduction of the Z800 series of workstations in March 2009.

The Z1 can be seen as the next generation in the successful Z series and will be available worldwide in April with a starting price of $1,899 in the United States.
