NEW DELHI: Hewlett-Packard (HP) has unveiled a new printing technology — Scalable Printing Technology (SPT) for the Indian market.

The company claims that this technology delivers groundbreaking print speeds with superior print quality and an overall lower cost per page.

Speaking at the launch, HP Asia Pacific and Japan Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) supplies VP John Solomon said, “HP has spent an estimated 16.8 million hours of work along with a five year strategic investment of $1.4 billion to bring this platform to the market. SPT incorporates individual tank technology, i.e. each color is a separate tank. Customers who use a lot of one color can then replace just that one tank rather than the cartridge as a whole, thereby saving money.”

He added, “With this technology the company is targeting both the home printing and SMB segment, as SPT effectively addresses the issues of speed, cost and ease of use for these segments. SPT is designed for leadership in current markets and scaling to new markets. With this technology, HP expects to expand the addressable digital printing market to 17 percent from the current 12 percent.”

The company has also launched the HP Officejet Pro K550 color printer series. This high volume printer is priced at Rs 7,999 plus taxes. HP has also launched the HP ScanJet 4890 Photo Scanner, which it claims is the world's fastest multiple image scanner.
