NEW DELHI: In order to tap the growing small and medium market in the country, Hewlett Packard has launched its server — HP ProLiant ML150 server based on Intel Xeon processor. "This is a product completely conceptualized designed and manufactured in the Asian region and is made specifically for the Asian markets like India, China, Korea and Singapore.

"We are launching it for the first time in the Asian region and based on the market feedback the same product will be launched globally as well," said HP India Sales Pvt Ltd., VP- enterprise system group (ESG) , Neelam Dhawan.

The new server is a dual processor product, which means that it can scale upto 2 Intel Xeon processors and support upto to 250 clients, 12 GB of memory and 730GB of storage capacity with hot pluggable hard disk drives. HP already has more than 31 percent marketshare in India and the company expects to gain more of this pie, as there is an increase in the deployment of mid sized servers in banks and insurance companies.

"We hope to sell more than 500 units of this server in the coming quarter. We believe that SMB is the fastest growing segment as far as servers are concerned and areas such as banking, telecom, insurance and manufacturing have a huge demand for this product. In the last year alone, SBI purchased more than 7,000 servers and this has made quite a difference in the overall market scenario. This trend will continue as more and more sectors like telecom and government are opening up," informed HP ESG, Country Manager — ISS, Vaibhav Phadnis.

This product is the first of the new ProLiant 100 series servers, designed and built for the SMB market. The server is priced at Rs 94,900 and is available both on the Windows as well as the Linux platforms. "As far as channel strategy is concerned, we are going to move this product with our existing resellers and VARs all over the country. As service has become a big issue with the channel community, we are giving a three-year‘ parts replacement warranty and one year onsite support warranty with this product," Phadnis added.

In addition to the server, the company has also launched system management software for servers. Code-named Nimbus, it provides common management across different hardware platform. "This is a new product and is targeted to bring together the strength of all the three tools — TopTools, ServiceControl Manager and Insight Manager. We hope that by combining all the strengths, we will be able to solve the problems faced by our clients in a better way," he explained.
