HP sets up lab at IIITB

BANGALORE: Hewlett-Packard (HP) today announced setting up of a lab at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIITB) campus to undertake technology research catering to the requirements of the telecom service providers in the 3G space.

This will be the first lab in India that will facilitate students from IIITB to undertake projects on HP's industry standard IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) network architecture built on the HP OpenCall software platform.

A company release states that the labs will focus on developing standards based applications to offer enhanced multimedia features and other value added services that can be deployed by the telecom service providers. HP will also provide the hardware, software and technical expertise required at the lab.

“This lab will provide a unique opportunity for the students at IIITB to undertake projects on emerging technologies in the telecom space,” said Marie-The' Sarrasin, Head of Operations of OpenCall Software, Hewlett-Packard. “The HP OpenCall based solutions for IMS networks are expected to create a lot business prospects for the telecom industry and the students can definitely capitalize this learning in their future endeavours.”

Inaugurating the lab, Professor S. Sadagopan, Director, IIITB said, “We would like to thank Hewlett-Packard for their technology contribution in setting up this innovation lab. This initiative will boost our research efforts at the Center for Telecom Research (C-Tel).”

HP OpenCall software suite improves operational efficiency with rapid delivery of new services and claims to enhance profitability for the telecom services providers.
