HP sees opportunity in digitalization

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The imaging and printing major Hewlett-Packard sees availability of content and digitalization as one of the key drivers to market its innovative printers portfolio. Despite of buzz around paper-less office, there has been about 52 trillion pages that are being printed annually. Thanks to phenomenal information growth!

HP is buoyant about the market trends which it says include content explosion, service-based business models, analog-to-digital transformation, and mobility and the Web.

Vyomesh I Joshi, executive vice president, HP Imaging and Printing Group, Hewlett-Packard, said that they want to build next-generation cloud architecture and are committed to ensure seamless transformation to cloud. HP believes that digitalization and content explosion is driving the market.

Talking about India, he underscored the importance of India as an important market.

“Our business is accelerating with India as a key growth engine. We are more committed than ever to growing our business in India. India’s printing industry is transforming and we are driving it from the front with our innovation,” he said.

The imaging and printing giant is also optimistic about its cloud-connected printers and said that it plans to ship 20 million e-printers by the end of 2011. The company has already shipped close to 3 million web printers during the first quarter of 2011.

“I am proud to say that some of the critical innovation around web-connected and cloud printing are being done by our engineers in India,” he added.

The company also said that key enablers for its IPG include cloud-based consumer and micro business services; managed SMB and enterprise cloud-based solutions; global print services provider ecosystem and integrated go-to-market strategy.

Photozio Group in its study, however, said that India is the fastest growing market in APJ region for services-based business models. With such findings, the company bets high on its services-centric business models.

HP believes that the total available market for MPS will be of $25 billion while retail publishing services will be $12 billion market by 2013.

There are 30 web presses that are being deployed by HP worldwide, though Joshi said that cloud-enabled Web-based printers are very crucial for their business.
