HP leads India x86 server market: IDC report

BANGALORE, INDIA: The IDC report on India quarterly server tracker 2008 said Hewlett Packard (HP) leads the India x86 server market with share of 33.9 per cent of the total 37,400 units shipments in Q3 2008 (July-September 2008 quarter).

On the India x86 Blade server front, HP again continued its domination, garnering 58.4 per cent of the share for units shipped in Q3 2008 said a press release.

In terms of unit shipments the industry grew 7.3 per cent quarter-on-quarter (Q3 2008 over Q2 2008) while HP grew 5 times as much at 36.8 per cent the release further added.

Amit Dalal, server analyst, IDC India said, “We have observed a positive momentum in the India Education and SMB sectors in the last quarter. HP’s marketing programmes, specifically the focus on channel training and enablement further helped it to tap into the opportunity in the 1-socket x86 server category during Q3 2008.”

This is the seventh consecutive quarter running of HP's leadership in the India x86 blade server spaces, the release said.
