HP launches Unix servers in India

BANGALORE: HP India launched two Unix servers under the new 05 series targeting the entry and mid range categories of servers. Called the rp2405 and rp5405, the new servers are capable of spanning from 1 to 8 processors running the HP-UX operating environment.

While the 2405, capable with one to two processor is priced in the range of Rs 2.8 to Rs 8.9 lakh and targeted at the entry level, the 5405 compatible of holding two to four processor is pegged at Rs 14.2 to Rs 29 lakh positioned in the mid-range category. The new servers in the 05 series holding up to 8 processors will be released shortly. The estimated prices include PA-8700 processors as well as memory, disks, I/O and pre-integrated HP-UX 11I operating environment.

"Customers today demand optimized performance and the highest levels of availability and manageability, while closely scrutinizing costs. The 05 series gives customers the functionality, performance and reduced TCO they require and as a result delivering superior value."

Quoting IDC, HP claims HP India to be ranked number one vendor in the overall RISC (Non- Intel) servers market for Q2, 2002 with revenues of $17.3 million. To make these servers available, HP has engaged in a new Channel Partner strategy. Under this, HP has hand picked the top channel partners in the country and has categorized under three broad sections, retail channel partners, volume channel partners and value channel partners. While the retail is targeted at SOHO, volume at mere numbers in the reseller leagues and value at largest system integrators. HP will not be engaged in direct selling of the 05 series range of servers.
