The papers are already available in North America and Europe. The companies are now simultaneously launching the new line of papers in Asia and Latin America.

The technology enables the papers to have nine times faster drying, 30 per cent brighter color, 60 per cent darker black and less smearing than ordinary ones, claim both HP and IP.

Announcing the launch today, Dennis McComb, director, business development, HP Papers, said that ColorLok technology enables easier analog to digital transformation.

McComb added that the printer and paper market size would become $76 billion in 2009. “Lot of these growth would come from emerging markets like India,” said McComb at a media briefing.

Scientists from HP and IP have jointly carried out the research and development for ColorLok technology.

“We will be incorporating the technology into every paper we produce,” said Lawrence Clayton, global business manager, International Paper.

Cecilia Ho, general manager, printing and writing paper, International Paper Asia, said the company would actively look for partnerships in China, India and South East Asia.

“We are not thinking of significantly increasing the price just because of the ColorLok technology,” added Ho
