NEW YORK: Computer company Hewlett-Packard Co. on Wednesday said that it had agreed to buy privately held computer services company Extreme Logic Inc., for an undisclosed amount to help build its services business for corporations.

Atlanta-based Extreme Logic sells services built around software products from Microsoft Corp. to financial services, healthcare, retail, manufacturing and telecommunications companies. It focuses on Internet applications.

Palo Alto, California-based Hewlett-Packard, which is the No. 1 computer printer maker and the No. 2 personal computer company, said it will take on 200 Extreme Logic employees.

Separately, HP said that it had extended its agreement with Hitachi Ltd. to allow HP to continue selling Hitachi's large data storage systems that compete with systems from IBM and EMC through 2008.
