Enlisting with the DGS&D is required for a company to sell goods or products to the government or semi-government bodies. Only vendors under DGS&D can give special prices for govt tendering.

“We have applied to DGS&D for our laptops and desktops. It is under process and I hope we will get it by the end of March,” said Ketan Patel, Country Manager—Mid Market Personal System Group, HP.

So far the company has enlisted with DGS&D for its workstations. Now, as the vendor eyes a bigger and better marketshare it is planning to enlist with DGS&D for other IT products as well. According to sources in the industry, the government sector would have at least 26 percent of the IT marketshare in FY 2009-10.
