Government of India is digitising every process to ease our lives. The new FASTag will ease daily commuters’ life. Almost every person has spent their time to just cross a toll plaza, and the worst part is – sometimes hours in the queue.

The new FASTag system will remove manual operation of toll collection, meaning no longer ques. If you have a FASTag you can move easily and electronically your toll will be collected. This is being implemented by 1st Dec 2019 and if you don’t have a FASTag then toll charges will be double.

What is FASTag?

FASTag is an electronic toll collection system that employs RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is operating this system to collect toll directly from prepaid or savings account to it or owner of toll.

It looks like a simple sticker that affixes on the windscreen of the vehicle. Once it is activated, you can drive through the toll plaza without stopping for the transaction.

Is FASTag compulsory?

Nitin Gadkari, the Road Transport and Highways Minister, has announced that FASTag is mandatory for all vehicles from 1st Dec 2019. If a vehicle crosses toll plaza without this, toll charges will be double at toll gates across the country.

So, no excuses, go and buy one before 1st Dec if you don’t have it already.
