Honeywell partners with VTU to ignite young minds

MUMBAI, INDIA: Honeywell has named Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Belgaum as the inaugural site for the Indian launch of the Honeywell - Nobel Laureate Lecture Series, the centerpiece of a global education initiative designed to connect students across the globe with Nobel Prize winners in Chemistry and Physics.

Dr Sheldon Glashow, the 1979 Nobel Laureate in Physics, will visit VTU on December 6 and 7 to participate in various activities with students and faculty. While on Dec 6 lecture he will deliver a lecture on “Blind Chance or Intelligent Design: The Need for Basic Research”  and also delivers a colloquium on “The Story of Neutrinos: From a Desperate Remedy to a Profound Enigma.”

The Honeywell – Nobel Initiative brings students together with some of the world’s most advanced minds to inspire and motivate the development of the leading scientists of the future.

Dr Glashow’s visit to VTU is a significant milestone in the partnership between VTU and Honeywell.  “Our association with VTU enables us to reach an audience of young scientists and engineers," said Ash Gupta, Country Manager Honeywell International (India).

The Honeywell - Nobel Initiative is part of Honeywell's Science Education Initiative, an effort designed to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists beginning with students and teachers at middle schools and extending to targeted universities around the world.

The Honeywell Innovators Scholarship is a program which not just recognises outstanding students with financial and academic resources to complete their final year of studies but also offers summer internship at Honeywell facilities for students. HTS and VTU have also entered into an MoU for an MTech in Avionics program, a course tailor made to suit the needs of Honeywell employees and developed jointly by VTU faculty and Honeywell experts. HTS and VTU are closely working together and exploring other areas of collaboration such as joint research as well.
