Hitachi ties-up with Redington for expansion across India

NEW DELHI: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi) today announced the

appointment of Redington as a new authorized distributor for Hitachi hard disk

drive (HDD) products in India.

Redington will service system integrators and resellers across India, where

Hitachi aims to significantly grow its hard drive business in 2006.

The alliance will particularly assist Hitachi in addressing B- and C-class

cities, which the company believes is seeing the strongest growth rates in the

Indian IT market. With 38 distribution offices, 44 warehouses, 1000+ employees

and 8,000 channel partners in India, Redington is positioned to assist Hitachi

consolidate its HDD presence nationwide.

Redington will work alongside existing Hitachi distributors, Cyberstar

Infocom and Neoteric Infomatique, to service the current and future HDD

customers. In India, Hitachi's channel focus is on in-country distribution

with partners who have strong local sales and support offices, direct

relationships with local systems integrators and OEMs, and are committed to

growing the Hitachi hard drive franchise by expanding the reseller business.

Hitachi last month became the first to offer nationwide doorstep pick-up

support for HDD channel partners in India.

Jaya Dharan, general manager, Asia Pacific Distribution, Hitachi Global

Storage Technologies, said, “The combination of a strong partner like

Redington and our nationwide door-to-door warranty coverage will ensure our

products are readily available with the best service support to help us meet our

aggressive goals for market growth in India.

“With Hitachi's newly ramped-up manufacturing facility in Shenzhen

driving increased product availability, our Asia Pacific channel strategy is to

seek strong partners with broader and deeper reach in the growing markets of

China, India and South East Asia. These markets are fueling the robust demand

for HDDs in the IT and consumer electronics segments,” Dharan added.

Commenting on the new partnership, Mr. J. S. Kulkarni, CEO, Redington India,

integrator and reseller customer base, our established footprint in the country
