NEW DELHI: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has announced that Microsoft
has identified its 1.8-inch hard disk drive - the Travelstar C4K40 as a
compatible hard disk drive component for the Portable Media Center (PMC)
platform.
Spearheaded by Microsoft, the PMC are new handheld electronic devices that
let consumers take their video, music and pictures with them to enjoy where and
when they want. With Hitachi's high-capacity hard disk storage, people using
PMCs can watch up to 175 hours of video including recorded television, store
1,00,000 photos or listen to a library of 10,000 songs. The PMC platform is
based on the Microsoft Windows CE and the Intel Portable Media Player reference
hardware design.
They also said that currently being reviewed by several manufacturers of PMC
devices, the C4K40 was selected for meeting platform criteria of a small
footprint, high capacity, ease of integration, reliability and performance.
Hitachi's 1.8-inch Travelstar drive is based on an industry-standard form factor
and shares a common interface connector with standard 2.5-inch hard drives.
