Hitachi GST launches 3TB hard drive

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) unveiled a new line-up of external drive, Hitachi XL desktop drive, including a 3TB version.

The Hitachi XL desktop drive comes in three forms - 3TB, 2TB and 1TB, and has USB 2.0 connectivity. The company says that the Hitachi XL drive will give both Mac and PC users enough capacity to store or back-up music libraries, digital photos and movie collections.

The Hitachi XL 2TB and 1TB desktop external drives are now available for $169.99 and $99.99 respectively, whereas the 3TB version will be available in January 2011 for $249.99.

Hitachi also announced that it is shipping its 3TB, 2TB and 1.5TB Deskstar 7K3000 drive family to OEMs and select distribution partners around the world.
