Highest ever GSM additions in March

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Despite the economic slowdown, there seems to be no pause in Indian's subscribing for GSM services. More than 10 million GSM subscriptions have been recorded in March, 2009.

According to T.V.Ramachandran, Director General, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) about 10.8 million additions were registered in March. The new additions exclude the GSM subscribers of Reliance.

“We are delighted to report the highest ever GSM subscriber additions at 10.8 million" Ramachandran said adding that "this is the highest ever subscriber additions since the inception of GSM service in India”.

With the new high in GSM additions the cumulative All India GSM subscriber base has now grown to 288.3 million in March 2009 (excluding GSM subscribers of Reliance), up from 277.5 million in February 2009.
