HID starts India operations

BANGALORE: Anticipating a huge demand from the Indian market for security solutions, access control device provider HID Corporation, announced its operations in India.

Until now, HID catered to the Indian market through its office in Hong Kong. “We are looking to invest in serving growing markets in India and China with local sales, service and support.

The company's product line-up includes access control readers, smart cards and related technologies like biometrics and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The company is part of the Sweden-based ASSA ABLOY group.

The company has customers in India in sectors such as large enterprises like Reliance and Indian Oil Corporation; call centers, BPOs and banks. The company is expects significant opportunities from the airline sector.

“The Indian Government has plans to revamp the infrastructure of 28 airports in India. We are in talks with them and right now they are in the process of understanding the various security options,“ said Denis Hebert, co-chief executive officer, ASSA ABLOY Identification Technology Group (ITG) and president, HID Corporation.

HID has appointed Harish Vellat as country manager for India. The Indian office in Bangalore would focus on operational support including product fulfillment, warehousing and specialized smart card services.

HID's access security solutions are deployed in 50 various airports like Boston, Anchorage in Alaska; Heathrow airport in London and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.

Indian airports at present depend on manual guarding provided by the Central Industrial Security Force. “By using our security systems, airports can skip the legacy systems and directly shift to the latest systems,” said Vellat.
