As in last edition, for GATE 2013, too, candidates applied online for the 15 subject papers, the tests for which would be administered online through a computer-based evaluation.

These are not the only technical innovations brought about by the GATE administrators, from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), besides the authorities from including the Department of Higher Education and HRD.

Beginning this edition, all candidate-related information and grievance redressal have been facilitated through one platform - the GATE Online Applicant Interface. All those who have applied and are awaiting exams, can download their admit cards (hall tickets) from the same, as GATE has stopped mailing admit cards by post.

The downloading process has been enabled since December 10, 2012, and candidates can access their documents through their respective zonal websites' Online Application Interface. Although one is mandated to take print-outs of their admit cars, they are also urged to carry an original and valid photo identification proof.

If you have trouble accessing the admit card PDF, the GATE 2013 site instructs, "You must use a Desktop (not mobile) browser of Chrome, Firefox, or IE." In case the problem persists even with you having confirmed your authentic login credentials, you can contact your respective zonal GATE office with your application ID.

Another thing to keep in mind on the day of the exam, which starts from January 20, is that GATE authorities might capture your biometric information - photograph and fingerprint - if you are among the randomly selected candidates. In this regard, it's sensible to keep fingers safe from injuries, failing which your identity might be under question.

GATE 2013 results will be announced on March 15 at 10 am and will be available on the GATE Online Applicant Website. The score would be valid for two years from the date of announcement of the results.
