Hero MotoCorp's Vijay Sethi is Champion CIO

MUMBAI, INDIA: It is not long ago when CEOs, COOs and CFOs were considered the only top executives in any kind of organizations. As the information technology (IT) wave started sweeping across the country in the nineties, companies soon realized the need for best IT practices, irrespective of the domain they were in.

So, in came the CIO (Chief Information Officer), and this is when CyberMedia constituted the Enterprise Awards. In its eighth edition, the awards identify and reward excellence of CIOs in bringing about innovative and path-breaking changes to their business through IT.

And this year, the Champion CIO award (in the above Rs. 1000 crore turnover category) went to Vijay Sethi, CIO, Hero MotoCorp Ltd. The gold award was won by U.C. Dubey, the CIO of Iffco Tokio General Insurance Co. This year, no one was selected for the silver award.

In the below Rs. 1000 crore category, there was no Champion CIO and the gold award went to Radhakrishna Pillai, CIO, Super Religare Laboratories. In this category, Carzonrent (India) Pvt Limited CIO Rajesh Munjal won silver.

While addressing the august gathering at the award function, jury chairman Ashok Soota talked about the happiness and how one should evaluate it in their life - not just personal, but professional too.

In the Individual awards category, Best Innovator gold award went to Shree Cement Limited CIO R.K. Srivastava, while Reliance Commercial Finance CIO Shashi Kumar Ravulapaty got silver.

In Project Management category, ING Vysya Bank CIO Aniruddha Paul got the award, while Bank of India CIO Pushpinder Singh was honoured in the Best Security Implementation category.

In Best Cloud Implementation, MTS India (Sistema Shyam Teleservices India Ltd.) CIO Rajiv Batra bagged the gold, and the silver went to Crompton Greaves Ltd CIO J. Ramesh.

The jury for the awards, headed by Ashok Soota, chairman and managing director of Happiest Minds Technologies Pvt Limited, included Sunny Banerjea, executive director, head — performance and technology, KPMG; Shobhana Ravi, chief information and learning officer of Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited; Pradeep Gupta, chairman and managing director, CyberMedia India Limited; Nilesh Sangoi, chief technological officer, Meru Cabs; Anil Kumar R, senior vice-president, CyberMedia India Limited; R Srinivasan, associate professor, Corporate Strategy and Policy, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and Anirban Banerjee, associate vice-president, CyberMedia Research.
