HECL to use VSNL's Internet infrastructure

BANGALORE: Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (VSNL) and Hughes Escorts Communication Ltd. (HECL) have signed an agreement that would enable HECL to use VSNL's Internet infrastructure. VSNL chairman and managing director S. K. Gupta and HECL president Shashi Ullal signed the agreement.

HECL will now be able to buy Internet access time in bulk and act as virtual Internet service provider (ISP) to their corporate clients using VSNL Internet infrastructure. Dealers of HECL's corporate clients can now access their server for placing orders for the products online through Internet. The service would be available in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Calcutta, Pune and Bangalore.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gupta said, "VSNL is all set and ready, has the infrastructure in place and capabilities and determination to provide these services to all its clients at an affordable price.'' Mr Ullal said that this service would substantially cut the cost of transactions and improve the efficiencies for dealers besides bringing down inventories at the company end.
