HCL unveils low cost PC

CHENNAI: Union Minister for Communication and IT Dayanidhi Maran, today launched India's first low cost computer, 'HCL PC for India', a fully functional PC priced at Rs 9,990.

Speaking at the launch, Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran said: “Today is an important day in the Indian PC revolution, where an Indian manufacturer brought in the low cost, affordable PC's for the first time in the world's history.”

Stating that HCL PC for India is an ideal PC which would bring PC and common man closer, he said, “In India today, there are around 15 million PC users and around five million Internet connections. The government hopes to increase the penetration level to 75 million PC users and 45 million Internet connections before 2010.”
