HCL unveils 'Leaptop Series 39'

BANGALORE, INDIA: HCL launched its latest HCL "Leaptop Series 39" here today.

Ranjendra Kumar, executive vice president, HCL Infosystems, said: "HCL Leaptop Series 39 is designed for Indian conditions, where ambient temperatures are pretty high, at 30 degree Celsius, unlike in Europe, where it stands below 20 degree Celsius. Moreover, the surface temperature of laptop tend to make the scene more uncomfortable."

Developed under HCL's "Design for India" program, HCL "Leaptop Series 39" is India's first fully RoHS complaint laptop. Moreover, the HCL "Leaptop Series 39" laptops are designed to achieve a lower temperature differential to below six degrees on its palm rest surface.

George Paul, executive vice president, HCL Infosytems, said: "Though we are very young entrants into the laptop sector, holding around 7.34 percent market share in India, HCL has always been a trend setter. We have always set standards for the Indian market and this time around we wanted to bring a product that is "Distinctly Indian" and suits the Indian market conditions and needs."

The HCL "Leaptop Series 39" series comes with a 14.1-inch wide screen and has a battery life of more than four hours. Complaint with Energy Star 4.0 Category A certification, the Leaptop series consumes less than 1.7 W of sleep mode and below 1W in stand-by mode and is optimised to reduce power consumption.

The HCL Leaptop Series 39 is based on Intel's Centrino and Centrino2 processors and it comes with both Microsoft and Linux OS versions."

Starting at a price range of Rs.39990 for the Centrino model and Rs. 42,990 for the Centrino2 range the HCL "Leaptop Series 39" also comes with an IMR imprint design finish.

HCL also showcased a wide range of Leaptops, the Z35 series, the series 28 and 24 and its latest "MTV Editions". Also showcased were India's first ultra portable range the "HCL MiLeap series" and range of HCL accessories including "Dictamail" and "FM Companion".

HCL on Financial Crisis
George Paul, executive vice president, HCL Infosytems, said: We haven't seen any slowdown till now but are very cautious for our future ventures. Moreover, further down the lane the company sees a strong demand for laptops from consumer and government sectors.
