NEW DELHI: HCL Technologies has announced a strategic alliance with Vitesse
Semiconductor Corporation by establishing a dedicated offshore development
center (ODC) at Chennai. Vitesse is a provider of integrated circuit (IC)
solutions for LAN/WAN/SAN markets.
The ODC will work as an extended arm of Vitesse's design engineering team, by
providing development services for a wide range of its advanced networking ICs.
HCL Technologies will also provide hardware and software development services to
assist Vitesse customers in building a variety of advanced networking products.
HCL Technologies has been working with Vitesse on several projects on turnkey
basis for more than a year. Under the alliance, HCL Technologies will dedicate a
pool of skilled engineers as an ODC for Vitesse. The ODC team will work on next
generation networking technologies, such as high performance FPGAs, ASIC design
and verifications, networking/telecom protocols and embedded software
development.
Both HCL and Vitesse will be on the program management council of the ODC and
ensure that the ODC complements Vitesse's own engineering resources effectively
in meeting the real time market commitments of end customers.
Vitesse is also targeting the ODC for the execution of many advanced
technology projects. These projects range from network processor-based
high-speed optical interfaces, networking protocol stacks and network services
software to connectivity for switching fabrics. HCL will also work on reference
designs for OEMs.
HCL will serve as a directly connected extension of Vitesse engineering
through a dedicated high-speed data link. Vitesse is investing substantially in
equipping the ODC with state-of-the-art EDA tools and system access via the
communications link.
