New Delhi - In a bid to address the digital lifestyle revolution in India, HCL
Infosystems Ltd, an information enabling and integration company, has formed a
strategic alliance with technology and IT enterprise Apple. The two companies
would develop a joint go to market and support strategy for Apple iPods in
India.
As part of the alliance, HCL will provide complete sales and service support
for Apple iPods in India, leveraging its marketing and distribution set up of
ICT products in India. HCL is setting up distribution, logistics and service
network to ensure availability of Apple iPods at key retail channels, including
music shops, consumer electronic stores, format stores and other key outlets. To
be launched in a phased manner, the first phase would cover metros and key
mini-metros, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune.
Announcing the tie-up with Apple, HCL Infosystems chairman and CEO Ajai
Chowdhry said, “We would use our existing channel as well as set up a new
distribution channel for selling Apple iPods. We plan to set up our own stores
under the franchisee model as well as tie up with organization which are into
retail to sell a whole bunch of lifestyle products.”
“We are providing a full solution around iPod complete with warranty,
accessories, sales and support, etc. We are also launching an entertainment
portal — HCLLive.in, which has over 25,000 tracks to feed iPods, PCs and
phones with legal downloadable content. We expect this to change the market and
the way India listens to music,” he added. The downloads are priced at Rs five
per download.
Also, HCL would also be shortly introducing iPod accessories across its
network. HCL would also be selling and distributing Apple desktops in the
education, media and entertainment space.
