HCL enters laptop market with 'leaptop'

NEW DELHI: HCL Infosystems today entered the laptop market with the announcement of segment specific range of notebooks brand — 'HCL Leaptops'.

The new range of HCL notebooks are customized according to the requirements of various target groups such as architects, engineers, doctors, info-kiosks (for jewelers, opticians, banks), women, defense, etc.

The notebooks are priced starting from Rs 27,500 going up to Rs one lakh for the ruggedised version. The notebooks also have security features like data encryption, biometric authentication, two-factor authentication and anti-theft lock.

HCL has also launched a notebook powered by Windows Starter Edition and another one powered by Microsoft Media Center.

Speaking at the launch, HCL Infosystems EVP George Paul said, “The notebook market has already witnessed exponential growth for the last two years and is estimated to grow at more than 50 percent year on year. We will focus on this mobile computing segment and hope to become a major player in this space also.”

HCL also provides its notebook customers with various service options like real time tele-support, technical online support, built-in online access to guides and user manuals and with 'return to bench' offering to 'HCL Service Points'.

For enterprise users, onsite support is available at 300 locations across the country with the facility of stand by unit support at metros for the traveling professional.

The company is also making available its notebooks on easy to avail finance options with EMI starting from Rs 699 per month.

HCL Leaptops also come with a comprehensive insurance package from theft, accidental damage, breakage and liquid spill.

The company would manufacture these notebooks at its Pondicherry facility, which has a manufacturing capacity of one million pieces per year.
