HCL debuts at Farnborough air show

FARNBOROUGH, UK: India-based IT and product engineering specialist HCL
Technologies today announced its plans to highlight its integrated approach to

the aerospace industry, debuting at this year's Farnborough air show.






Following a period of consolidation, HCL has developed and been delivering a set
of core avionics skills that enable the off-shoring of complete subsystems. This

proven core skill set includes software engineering, hardware engineering, FPGA

design and verification, and mechanical design and analysis.






Customers benefiting from the expertise include Boeing, with whom HCL works on
the prestigious 787 Dreamliner project along with Boeing's tier 1 suppliers, BAe

and Volvo Aero.






HCL will share details of its innovative partnership systems which combine a
multi-service integrated engagement model with the use of output-based pricing

schemes to share the commercial risk of aircraft manufacture and development

between HCL and its customers.






India is set to become one of the biggest aerospace markets in the world with
imports projected to top £150 billion in 10 years. As annual passenger numbers

are expected to reach 50 million by 2008, the demand for aircraft is substantial

requiring expert engineering and design support from suppliers.






Airbus currently delivers an aircraft per month to India and Boeing is in the
midst of developing 50 aircraft for Air India.






Recently ranked fifth among top 20 Indian IT software and services exporters,
HCL has been instrumental in developing the rapidly growing Indian aerospace

market and has extensive expertise in both hardware and software development and

this has led to the development of an integrated, end-to-end offering.






HCL's focus on the engineering services space is matched by an aggressive target
of over 150 per cent growth throughout the financial year. This includes the

establishment of a design centre for an aerospace Tier-1company, which will have

in excess of 100-150 engineers.






Martin Hunt, head of HCL's European Engineering and Aerospace division comments:
"We are in the midst of exciting and explosive growth. NASSCOM estimates that

the market size of the aerospace technology outsourcing market in India to be

currently about US$ 150 million, and predicts in the next four years that it

will be worth US $1 billion. At present 18 per cent of our hi-tech and

manufacturing revenue is derived from the aerospace industry. We anticipate this

to figure to reach 30 per cent within the next five years. HCL will continue to

grow with this industry"
