“We are confident of registering a growth of approximately 17 per cent in IT and ITES services export, though due to economic slowdown, this growth is lower compared to 30 per cent average growth that we have registered in the past few years,” said MK Sardana, Genral Manager, Department of Information Technology, Haryana.

He said this in a joint seminar held by Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Cooperation (HSIIDC) and Haryana Electronics Development Corporation (Hartron), here today.

The seminar was organized by Haryana government to take the feedback of stakeholders in IT and ITES sector and address their concern. Haryana Government has also announced it would come with revised industrial policy.

“We have discussed the issues with all the companies present in Haryana and we would shortly bring revised industrial policy to make Haryana more conducive for investment. We expect that this revised industrial policy will be in force within this financial year,” added Sardana

The participants in the seminar identified shortage in supply of power and frequent traffic jams as two major roadblocks that can further fade the growth story of Gurgaon and, in-turn, Haryana.

“Most of the global companies are present in Gurgaon. Huge number of people from outside come and stay here. Even senior people from the global companies make frequent visits here. The city is not presentable in terms of road, cleanliness, and power and traffic management to foreigners. They don’t have very good take back when they visit here,” said Deepak Kapoor, a BPO industry veteran.

He said the Government of Haryana can make these things better in lieu of investment they have received from the companies in the state.

Participants in the seminar asked for the support of the government in terms of talented and skilled workforce, which is vital for supporting IT and ITES companies present in Haryana.

In response to the concern raised by participants at the seminar, Sardana said that the power crisis will be solved by 2011 and traffic problem will ease with the commencement of metro rail.

“There are three power projects under way. All these three projects will be commissioned by 2011, after which we will have surplus power of 12500 Megawatts. As far as traffic management is concerned, it will be solved once the metro rail service starts,” said Sardana.
