MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif: Handheld computer maker Handspring Inc. on Tuesday said
it had licensed its Internet browser software to wireless network company Sprint
Corp. Financial details were not provided.
Under the agreement, Sprint's wireless arm Sprint PCS has licensed the Blazer
software, which it says allows access to virtually any Internet site and
provides a more graphical and color browsing experience. The Handspring Blazer
Web browser enables wireless Internet access to content in a variety of
programming languages.
Initially, the Blazer browser will be available for Sprint PCS customers
using the QCP-6035 Sprint PCS Phone by Kyocera Corp. and will be packaged with
Samsung's SPH-I300 Sprint PCS Phone, due to be released next month. "This
agreement is a critical step forward in establishing Blazer as the standard for
Internet access on Palm OS-based handheld computers and personal
communicators," said Ed Colligan, chief operating officer of Handspring.
