NEW DELHI: Gujarat is setting up a venture capital fund for biotechnology entrepreneurs, Chief Minister, Narenda Modi, said in his inaugural address at the international Conference on Bioinformatics and Contract Research, Biotech India 2003. "Gujarat is the most peaceful state and is moving towards overall economic development through an integrated approach.

The investments would be redirected to five specific areas of biotechnology- pharmaceuticals, agriculture biotechnology, industrial enzymes, and the two new areas of environment biotechnology and marine biotechnology. Modi also underlined Gujarat’s potential in contract research. The state had 40 percent of India’s pharma manufacturing sector, several hospitals, and an entrepreneurial culture, he said.
