Gujarat school rated best in computer literacy

BANGALORE: Gujarat, Vadodara based Navarachana Higher Secondary School became the national winner of the prestigious second Computer Literacy Excellence Award for Schools — 2003.



While Meera Model School (Delhi) is the first runner-up, Bishop Cotton Boys' School (Bangalore) is second runner-up in the national awards, which was announced recently by the Ministry of Information Technology.



President APJ Abdul Kalam honoured the best computer literate schools at the national and state levels with the awards for their excellent work in attaining computer literacy, at the presentation ceremony, amidst the presence of principals and teachers from various schools in the country.



The event, organized by the Ministry of Information Technology (MIT), was aimed at encouraging the management of educational institutions in the private and government-aided/government schools to impart quality IT education and accelerate computer literacy.



The national winner received a cash award of Rs 10 lakh along with a trophy and citation, while the national runner-ups received cash awards of Rs 6.5 lakh each, with a trophy and citation. The State level winners received cash awards of Rs 5 lakh each along with trophy and citation.



Congratulating the school management for their excellent work, Dr. Kalam stressed on making education a children-friendly process. Apart from attracting children to schools, the education system should be able to inject creativity among the children, he said. Also, the aim of the education system should be to build character, human values, enhance the learning capacity through technology and build the confidence among children to face the future, said the President.



The Navarachana Higher Secondary School, Bishop Cotton Boys' School and the Government High School in Bangalore have also won the state level awards.



Speaking to this correspondent, Gujarat IT Secretary, A N Singh said, "The State Government is very happy and proud of Navarachana Higher Secondary School's achievement in the computer literacy."
