CHENNAI: Groupcom, the public mobile radio trunking service from

Arya Communications and Electronics Services Ltd (Aryacom), recently launched

Safenet, a wireless security system. Safenet uses a remote wireless radio

connected to panic buttons or sensors placed in the user's premises.

In case of an emergency, the panic button or sensor can be activated manually or
automatically, which transmits a discrete alarm along with a personal ID number

to a Central Monitoring Station (CMS). The CMS will be equipped with a radio,

computer and phone. Once the signal is received, the authenticity of the alarm

will be checked through the phone, by asking for a password that would have been

previously assigned to the user. The location can then be detected on a map in

the computer and the authority concerned alerted.

The system, which costs about Rs 35,000 for installation, can be used in case of
theft, medical emergency or fire as well. Groupcom offers door sensors, glass

break sensors, motion sensors, fire and smoke detectors. For technical support,

Groupcom has a strategic alliance with JJ Associates, security gadget

manufacturers. K Satyanarayanan, Group Chief General Manager, Aryacom, said,

"The CMS will either be set up as a franchisee or in collaboration with the

police control room." A franchisee fee of around Rs 500 will be charged,

out of which Rs 150 will be paid to DoT.

Aryacom has a radio base station in Chennai for its radio trunking service,
which will be covering the Safenet system as well. The radio tower will cover a

radius of 35-40 kms. Safenet has already been introduced in Vishakapatnam and

Delhi as well. The former is in conjunction with the police department while a

franchisee CMS has been set up in Gurgaon. The company expects Safenet to

generate 15-20 percent of the total turnover.

The company is also offering a buy-back option to the user. "In case he/she
is shifting house, we will buy back the product at depreciated cost."

Aryacom, which is a part of JM Baxi group of companies, is also distributor for

Motorola, Transcrypt and Zetron. There are plans to introduce Safenet in Mumbai

within the next few weeks and in South East Asia (Hong Kong and Singapore) in

future.
