Making this announcement, a blog in the Microsoft website said that the name makeover is in concert with the direction the product is going.

With this new name, SharePoint Workspace 2010 would be easier to deploy and easier to manage, it  would support a new set of scenarios to help Office and SharePoint users be more productive.

It would provide easy access to SharePoint content (or content from any server that implements the publicly documented protocols) in an effort to provide a seamless online/offline experience.

The company with this name change also plans to change the product delivery model.

For example SharePoint Workspace will be added to the Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 release, said the blog.
