CHENNAI: India’s only get-together conference for graphic designers,
Entertainment Graphics Organization (EGO) 2001, jointly organized by Pentamedia
Graphics and IBM, is set to commence in Chennai on Thursday. Big wigs from the
entertainment industry such as Sony, 20th Century Fox, Reliance Entertainment,
ESPN/STAR, Indian Broadcasting Foundation, Television Asia Magazine are expected
to attend the function. This apart, technologists, computer animators and
entrepreneurs will also converge for the second annual symposium.
About 300 to 500 delegates from a wide spectrum of the entertainment graphics
industry such as motion picture, TV, media executives, video game developers,
leading television advertisers and animators will be represented at the meet.
Animator and producer of The Simpsons, Garfield and Tom and Jerry show Phil
Roman, will be bestowed with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Some of his works
would also be screened on the occasion. Panel discussions on various topics such
as animation, special effects for motion pictures and television, the
globalization of entertainment, film making in 21st century, new media and
Indian and international markets will be taken up in the next two days, as part
of the EGO 2001 meeting.
"This meet will discuss the increasing importance of technology in the
entertainment graphics industry and where the industry is headed for," said
V Chandrasekharan, Chairman, Pentamedia Graphics. IBM, the sponsors for EGO
2001, will showcase its workstation IBM IntelliStation at the meet. "IDC
has estimated the digital content creation market to be around $80 million this
year, with a compounded growth rate of 82 per cent," said IBM vice
president (personal systems) Shashi B Mal.
