Graphic India raises $5 million

Graphic India, the company which creates comic characters for the digital platform has raised $5 million in a new funding round led by investors at Liquid Comics with a group of global media and investment leaders participating including Start Media, Julian Farrior, co-founder of BackFlip Studios, Mohandas Pai's 3One4 Capital, Neeraj Bhargava, founder of Zodius Capital.

Graphic India was founded by Sharad Devarajan and Liquid Comics. The company previously raised funds from CA Media, the Asian investment arm of The Chernin Group, and Start Media LLC. The company has previously developed comic characters and shows including Chakra: The Invincible, Astra Force, Bahubali: The Lost Legends, 18 Days: The Mahabharata. The company has already collaborated with stalwarts including Stan Lee, Amitabh Bachchan, Grant Morrisson, SS Rajamouli, Arka Mediaworks and others.

"In today’s media landscape, if the content is king then globally appealing multi-platform content is God. Our mission at Graphic India is to create characters and stories that are uniquely Indian, but entertaining and inspiring to audiences around the world,” said Devarajan, CEO, Graphic India. The funds will be used to create original Indian superheroes and character entertainment franchisees.

At a time when superheroes movies are making a mark worldwide, Graphic India will look to target the global youth audience under the age of 25, who is more digitally interconnected and appreciative of diversity in content.
