Govt. to support Startup village in Kochi: Kerala CM

The Start up village in Kochi which is the first telecom incubator in India is in plans of expansion. With the growing number of student entrepreneurs, the Startup village is going to achieve its target to establish a campus by 2014, which will be spread upto one lakh square feet. The Startup Village has got an additional space of 10,000 square feet.

Startup village which began functioning in April this year as a joint initiative between the Department of Science and Technology under the Government of India, Technopark Trivandrum and MobME Wireless.

Oomen Chandy, Chief Minister, Kerala has inaugurated the Startup Village at the Kinfra Hi-Tech Park in the city. He said that, the Government will extend maximum importance to the requirements of the Startup Village as it would serve as a major centre for employment generation. The government has offered 25 cents of land for the Startup village at the Kinfra Park to meet its future needs.

"As of now, we have a total of 359 applicants, a chunk of whom will soon become incubated companies at the Village. The new building will house six different innovation zones by as many companies, including giants like Blackberry, IBM, Oracle and KPMG who have already partnered with Startup Village. Another six firms will be able to set up innovation zones with this additional space. It will give further boost to entrepreneurs who build start-ups on top of these technologies," said Sanjay Vijaykumar, Startup Village Governing Body Chairman.

The Startup Village will have a high speed internet connectivity of one Gbps and it has the capacity to accommodate 68 incubated firms in an area of 5,000 square feet, as per the details shared by Sijo Kuruvila, CEO, Startup Village. He also said that, a four floor building has been leased out by Kinfra which can house 250 to 300 companies.
