GoPro cameras, the flagship product of California-based GoPro Inc have acquired a cult status among Indian travelers, photographers, and bloggers, even before it launched in India yesterday, in partnership with Reliance Digital.

The manufacturer of action cameras announced its launch in India with a number of associations with bloggers and photographers across the country, which the company refers as 'social influencers'. The product is portable and light can be mounted on your bike, or car, or even on your helmet, to capture moments in the video. "The best part is, you don't miss being in a moment and still capture a moment," GoPro Senior Director of APAC sales Rodney Block said.

The camera will exploit Reliance Digital's network of 1800 stores in 500 cities to reach out to its target audience, the youth. The company, which has an active strategy of tapping the social media for marketing purposes, plans to extend the strategy to penetrate the Indian market also. The company has three models in India starting from Rs 19,999, up to Rs 45,990.

The company has priced two of the base models at par with its global pricing, while the premium model will cost more in India, thanks to is slightly the import duties levied on electronic products in the country.

The camera, which has an active community of adventurers sharing videos of surfing a monster wave, bungee jumping, bike rides, will also be sold through GoPro's online partner sites--Amazon and Flipkart. In near future, the American company may also consider setting up a manufacturing operation in India.

“We expect India to become one of the five top markets for us globally, in next 2-3 years, considering the amount of enthusiasm here, and there is so much to explore in this country,” Bryan Johnston, vice president, international marketing of GoPro said.
