These are inspiring times. Taking ‘inspiration’ from others was never so simple nor so cool. This statement becomes all the more relevant the moment we step into the tech world. The interesting element here is that these ‘inspirations’ are coming from arch rivals mainly. And mind you, we aren’t pointing fingers at anyone or shaming anyone. We are merely talking about the age and the current trends.

After all the Facebook-Snapchat saga, Google seems to have rewritten the rules of how to copy or how to get inspired (euphemism) - pick a product- refine it- add a tweak- and brand it as yours. So simple, isn’t it?

At Google’s Pixel event in San Francisco, beneath every launch, be it Pixel smartphones or Daydream view VR headsets or the smart device Google Home, there is a curious case of blatant ‘inspired by’ hallmark.

Pixel and the iPhone connection

If you presently use an iPhone 6S or 6S Plus, then you know what am I talking about. With visible antenna lines, brushed aluminum backs, headphone jacks, and no water-proofing, Pixels look so much like iPhone 6S models.

A little more subtle aspect of Google doing an Apple pertains to the launch of Pixel brand itself. An integration of Android with in-house hardware lies at the core of Pixel smartphones. This is precisely what iOS and iPhones are all about. This is what Google wishes to achieve this time around.

Google Home and Amazon’s Echo

After Apple, Google next pick is Echo smart speakers from Amazon. Just like Echo, Google Home is a voice-controlled speaker with ‘Assistant’ to aid you. No exaggeration if we call it a clone of the original coming at $50 cheaper price.

Daydream view or Gear VR

No prizes for guessing, the source idea for Daydream view. Oculus and Gear VR are perhaps parent ideas for all the VR stuff in the market.

As usual, Google has refined the product to make it stand out. Daydream will work with phones from any manufacturer that matches Google's spec and it comes with a really cool controller that mimics some of what you can do with a Vive or PlayStation VR controller.

Google Wifi and Eero

Many of you might not have heard about Eero’s mesh networking but that can’t be the reason for not giving them their due credit. Google’s new routers are heavily or let’s say directly inspired by Eero’s modular networking that uses multiple routers for better and even network coverage over a particular space.

No major tweaks here only a price differential- It's $129 for a single Google Wifi or $299 for a three pack. Eero, on the other hand, is $199 for one and $499 for three.
